Dana K. Bowie, BS, MS, DrPH
Infection Control Manager and DrPH Student, Wayne County (MI) Jails and Boston University School of Public Health
Area of work: Disease Management, Prevention and Education
Dana began her career conducting pre-clinical and clinical trials in cardiovascular therapeutics at Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals and the University of Michigan, respectively. While working at U of MI, she was introduced to the field of public health and began taking courses towards a master's degree in their summer institute. Dana moved to a position at the Wayne County Health Department in the Environmental Health Division however, her interests in infectious diseases and health disparities lead her to a position at the Wayne County Jails, where she became the Infection Control Manager. Dana was responsible for program and policy development and training for corrections officers and inmates. She completed her Master's degree while working at the jail, and recently returned to school full-time to pursue a Doctorate in Public Health at the Boston University School of Public Health. While in Boston, Dana also worked at the Massachusetts Public Health Association where she was appointed to a governor's committee to evaluate the Massachusetts Department of Corrections health services department and programs. Dana is currently completing her coursework and is returning to the Wayne County Jails to begin working on her dissertation in correctional health.
Personal Information:
I love spending time with my 6-year-old son and fiancé. I enjoy traveling, photography, watching movies and playing and watching most sports. I love swimming and yoga and plan on participating in my second triathlon in the near future.
What I would like to get out of this program:
I am looking to gain and develop relationships with other committed health professionals. I am also looking forward to developing new perspectives on how to deal with difficult management issues, specifically on how to prioritize programs with limited resources.
