Dr. James L. Coleman, Jr., is a 1986 graduate of Camden High School in Camden, SC ; a 1990 graduate of Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC with a BS in Physical Education; a 1992 graduate, University of Central Arkansas, Conway, MS in Applied Kinesiology. After completing this degree, he taught for one year at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, in the Department of Physical Education, then continued his education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he taught while pursuing his Doctorate of Education, in the field of Health Education with an emphasis in diabetes research and evaluation, which he received in August of 1996.
Dr. Coleman currently serves as Chief Executive Officer for the Margaret J. Weston Medical Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, located in Aiken County, SC, with a budget of $2.2 million.
Dr. Coleman is the former Director of the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC), and also the former District Director of Health Education for the Waccamaw Public Health District.
Dr. Coleman also serves as Senior Pastor of Second Calvary Baptist Church in Heath Springs, SC.
