Latrice Michelle Gay is a public health educator with Wake County Human Services/Wake County 4-H Youth Development. She coordinates substance abuse prevention programs with high school students and provides leadership and expertise on organizational change-related committees. As the Director of Community Health Education at the Mecklenburg Council on Adolescent Pregnancy (MCAP), Latrice provided education to over 1000 youth per year and managed youth and adult volunteer groups. Her leadership with the HIV/AIDS Consortium-Youth Advisory Council helped to mobilize a successful 13-county peer education initiative. She possesses over 5 years of Fitness and Wellness experience working with various populations such as adolescents, cardiac rehabilitation patients, and the elderly.
In 2002, Latrice gained international research experience through the Advocates for Youth: European Study. The tour focuses on gaining insight of the adolescent sexuality policies and culture of three countries in Europe.
As a consulting master trainer with the North Carolina School Health Training Center, she works diligently building capacity with North Carolina teachers to implement curricula in the classroom.
In 2001, Latrice received the Young Adult Leadership Award, given by the Women's Forum of North Carolina, for her outstanding example of leadership and determination to young people across the state.
Personal Information:
I am the proud aunt of one beautiful niece and five handsome nephews. I love spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy various forms of music, dancing, reading, bowling, and learning. I treasure integrity, and the uniqueness of different cultures coming together to accomplish a common goal.
What I would like to get out of this program:
This is a wonderful opportunity for professional development. I hope to strengthen my business skills and knowledge, that I may become a more effective leader in public health. I look forward to establishing a meaningful network with the talented Emerging Leaders of 2006.
