Lawrence Shorty (Navajo-Mississippi Choctaw) works in the area of tobacco addiction resistance with indigenous people. In addition to his University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill work, he is a co-founder of the Tobacco Policy Sharing Knowledge in Native Societies policy advocacy organization. His work combines topics in Native American Studies with public health and strives to find an action oriented balance towards healthful and meaningful solutions.
He has served on different committees for local, regional, federal, and international health promotion programs.
Personal Information:
Lawrence Shorty is happily married to Florina. His interests include classic automobiles, reading, dancing and listening to music, documentary videography, traveling, going to flea markets, and experimental cooking.
What I would like to get out of this program:
I would like to learn to become more strategic with identifying and gaining access to funding for tobacco control initiatives.
