I currently work for the Duke AHEC Program as the Director of Continuing Education and Special Projects.  In this capacity, I assist with the development and coordination of continuing education for allied health and continuing medical education courses.  I aslo work on the development and coordination of online continuing education and blended learning courses.  I'm the Program Director for the NC Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program, which is an accredited program through Lamaze International.  In this role, I trained individuals from local hospitals, local heatlh departments, and non-profit organizations, who are interested in offering childbirth education classes for their clients.  I have my undergraduate degree in Health Education and Health Behavior from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health.  My Masters of Education degree is from UNC-Charlotte with a concentration in Health Promotions.  I have been working around maternal and child health issues for the past 15 ! years.  

Personal Information

For fun, I enjoy traveling with my husband (of four months)!  I love to read and I am one of the founding members of the Triangle Ebony Readers bookclub, which started in 1998.  I am certified as a Lamaze childbirth educator, so I teach Lamaze classes at a local hospital as well as privately.  I am a trained doula and provide professional labor support services to women in the Raleigh/Durham area.

What I would like to get out of this program

I am extremely excited to involved in the Emerging Leaders Fellowship. My hope is that I will further develop my leadership and advocacy skills that will allow me to address needs across NC, such as, under-representation of minoritys in healthcare, the workforce shortages among allied health professionals, and perinatal health issues like infant mortality and normal birth practices.
