Equipment and Skill Requirements
Below is a checklist of the equipment and computer skills needed to participate as a scholar. Please confirm that you have both the equipment and the skills needed to participate in this program.
Equipment/Software
- 266 MHz Intel Pentium processor or better
- 128 MB or more of RAM
- 200 MB free on the hard disk
- 33 Kbps or better modem, cable, or LAN connection to the Internet
- 16-bit or better sound card and speakers
- 65,000-color or better video display card
- 15-inch color monitor or larger
- CD-ROM or DVD drive
- Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3, Windows 2000, or Windows XP (with the Microsoft Office suite)
- Mozilla/Firefox or Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher or Netscape Navigator 6.x or higher
- RealPlayer 8 Basic or higher
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher
Computer Skills
- Able to download software, e.g. Realplayer
- Able to access sound/audio streams on the internet (may find test recordings at Realplayer website if needed)
- Able to access the internet
- Able to find and access the ELPH website
- Able to send and receive email
- Able to use Search Engine, e.g. Google, Yahoo, etc.
- Able to open, enter and post to the scholar discussion groups
- Able to cut and paste between Word Processor, email, and the web
