Dr. Sloane Burke, Ph.D., CHES, Assistant Professor at East Carolina University, has over 11 years of teaching in higher education and 10 years experience in the nonprofit field. She has worked with agencies such as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the American Red Cross. Dr. Burke received her Ph.D. in Health Studies from Texas Woman's University. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and is a long-standing member of the American Public Health Association and Society for Public Health Education. Dr. Burke has received both academic, teaching, and employment awards for excellence in performance. Dr. Burke has published professional journal articles on women's health, instructional technology, and was a contributing author for a published book and booklet series on breast cancer. Dr. Burke's research interests include health disparities, technology in the classroom, nonprofit management, intimate partner violence, and breast cancer. Dr. Burke has had over 5 years of experience in health-related assessments among Latino populations, including interviews conducted with Spanish-speaking migrant and immigrant farm workers. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate in-class and online courses in community health, nonprofit management, and health disparities.

What I would like to get out of this program

By attending the Emerging Leaders in Public Health, Managing in Turbulent Times Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, it is my hope that I will learn the valuable skills and training of public health management and leadership in times of crisis and sustainability as applied to the community health setting.
