Area of work: Staff RN/Case Management
Shannon is an Alaskan Native living and working in her home town of Kotzebue Alaska. She graduated with a BSN in 2001 and has worked in many area's of nursing. Her interest in public health stemmed from working as a Public Health Nurse in Northwest Alaska. In this position she boarded many small planes to outlying rural villages, staying in small clinics manned by Community Health Aids. She fell in love with the families - and learned much about herself in the talking with elders that rooted her to her Inupiaq Heritage. In an effort to join her community in the quest for cultural strenth and community wellness, Shannon decided to go back to school to pursue a Master of Pulic Health.
Personal Information
I have a 12 year old son who guides many of my personal decisions. I model for him a thirst for knowledge and inner peace.
What I would like to get out of this program
Tools to bring back to my community to spark interest in our children and culture. I would also like ideas for commmunity rejuvination and an action plan as a starting point. Thank you.
