Patricia Parker (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin) is Associate Professor of Communication Studies at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Dr. Parker’s research, teaching, and community activism focus on the intersections of race, gender, class and power in organization processes, with an emphasis on girls’ and women’s leadership practices as sites for resistance and empowerment.

Her publications include a book on African American women’s executive leadership (Erlbaum, 2005), as well as several articles and book chapters appearing in edited volumes and journals.

Her current work, supported by a Kauffman fellowship for social entrepreneurship, is a participatory action research project engaging young women in low-income neighborhoods to become advocates for positive change and social justice in their communities.
