Monecia Thomas is the director of the Management Academy for Public Health and the Emerging Leaders in Public Health program at the North Carolina Institute for Public Health.

Thomas joined the Institute in 2006 as senior state accreditation coordinator for the North Carolina Local Health Department Accreditation program. She was responsible for a broad range of duties, including creating strategies for the RWJ Foundation-funded Multi-State Learning Collaborative project, supervising accreditation site visits, marketing the program, and developing and leading training sessions. In addition, she co-authored an article for the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice, entitled "Accreditation/Performance Assessment On-Site Reviews in Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, and Washington: Implications for States and an Evolving National Model".

Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science in Science Education-Biology from North Carolina State University and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health.
