Managing in Turbulent Times: Emerging Leaders in Public Health

Success Stories

Dwayne JarmanSince I started the ELPH program, I noticed improvement in my work place effectiveness and efficiency. I feel that both the support during peer discussions and direction stemming from the fire side chats has given me a real advantage over my colleagues. Many of the ELPH fellows have shared our experiences so that each of us may find our own way to achieve balance between work and personal life yet become leaders in our respective fields.

What I have learned during the program has helped me co-coordinate a Regional Bioterrorism Preparedenss Conference aiming at building alliances to promote tribal preparedness, develop better relationships in my work place and with the tribes that we serve, positively impact the goal and direction of my organization, and facilitate an increase in programmatic funding from the State of Michigan during FY 2004. I feel that I am a stronger and better person and professional for participating in the ELPH program. The relationships and understandings that I have developed will help guide me through my future directions.
